Meet SERI Faculty Researchers

Dr. Suparna Chatterjee: An assistant professor in the School of Teacher Preparation, Administration, and Leadership (TPAL) program, Dr. Chatterjee was born and raised in India, where she earned her advanced degrees. Her research focuses on equity in STEM education and the evolution of student identity.

Dr. Adaline De Chenne: A mathematics assistant professor who grew up in a small town in northern Washington near the border with Canada. Dr. De Chenne's work centers on student identity development and retention in STEM education.

Dr. Mandy Peel: An assistant professor in TPAL, Dr. Peel was born in El Paso and grew up in Las Cruces. She focuses on cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary work, ensuring diverse perspectives and backgrounds are represented in STEM education.

Dr. Patty Lopez: A computer science assistant professor with a long career in industry, Dr. Lopez grew up in northern New Mexico. She is interested in making grading more equitable and focusing on rubrics that demonstrate student mastery.

Dr. Mariana Alvidrez: An assistant professor in TPAL, Dr. Alvidrez was born and raised in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, where she was a teacher. Her research involves supporting student teachers in developing critical consciousness and understanding errors as learning opportunities.

Dr. Paulette Vincent-Ruz: An assistant professor with the NMSU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Dr. Vincent-Ruz brings expertise in chemistry education and the integration of inclusive teaching practices in STEM.

Dr. Cecilia Contreras Aguirre: A research faculty member with the NMSU Research Cores Program, Dr. Contreras Aguirre focuses on interdisciplinary research and the application of STEM+ education methodologies.
